Delta Dental Insurance in the Fox Cities: Making High-Quality Care Affordable

Dental insurance enables many more people to finally afford their essential dental care, but actually using it can be a bit confusing sometimes. All you really want to know is what kind of coverage you can expect when you visit your dentist in Freedom. You see terms like “in-network” and “PPO,” but what do they actually mean?

At Dental Expressions, we accept insurance plans from all the major providers, including Delta Dental, the largest provider of dental insurance in the country. Because of this, we’re very knowledgeable about the ins-and-outs of how you can get the most out of your dental insurance, and will always be willing to help you understand it better.

What Does “In-Network” Mean?

This is a term you will see very often when it comes to dental insurance. So what does it actually mean when we say, “Dental Expressions is in-network for Delta Dental?”

It means our practice has negotiated a contract with Delta Dental so that they will pay for a portion of our services used by people who have a plan with them. This contract also sets the price of our services as well, which can lead to a lot of savings for you, the patient, because these prices are often significantly reduced. Multiple practices have this same contract with Delta Dental, and this is what it means to be “in-network” with them.

Alternatively, “out-of-network” means just the opposite, as in a practice does not have a contract with a particular provider. A practice may still accept insurance from these out-of-network plans, but it probably won’t offer as many savings as an in-network practice does.

The Basics of Dental Insurance

As we previously mentioned, dental insurance is intended to make it easier for people to afford their dental care, and there are a number of plans that approach this in different ways.

A fee-for-service plan involves you paying a set fee for a particular service, with this fee being determined by the practice and the insurance provider. An example of this is Delta Dental’s Premier Plan. This plan allows you to visit any dentist that you want, and let you pay no more than the fee set by Delta Dental. This makes it easier for you to find a doctor that you like, as well as know exactly what your treatment may cost beforehand.

Another type of plan is a PPO, or Preferred Provider Organization Plan. This is simply a slightly different way to phrase “in-network.” When you visit your dentist in Freedom at Dental Expressions with the Delta Dental PPO Plan, it means that Delta Dental will pay for part of your already discounted services, easily saving you hundreds of dollars with each visit. If you were to visit another practice that was not a preferred provider for Delta Dental, you would not get the same level of coverage, which is why you should always visit a practice that is in-network with your insurance.

These two plans usually have copayments (the set portion you need to pay for a service), deductibles (the amount you need to pay before your coverage will kick in), and annual maximums (the max amount of coverage you can use in a 12 month period). However, with plans like Delta Dental’s DeltaCare USA, there are no set copayments, deductibles, or coverage maximums. You simply need to visit a dentist near Appleton that is within the Delta Dental network to use your benefits. The premiums might be slightly higher than other plans, but the out-of-pocket costs will be much lower.
